Hirsch Summary
A man and his children vowed during a shipwreck, on the 17th of Tamuz - it happened to be that day - to observe the rigors of fasting the 9th of Av. Additionally, they decided not to eat any meat during the entire three weeks of mourning. As the father, due to old age, and the daughters, due to pregnancy, found it difficult to keep their vows, they requested dispensation. Furthermore, the sons wanted to know if honey was considered part of the category of meat. Meir ben Abraham Hacohen Alfasi allows the vows to be annulled, and the consumption of honey is permitted even without annulment.
