Pri Ets Haim Amsterdam Responsa
Amsterdam has a long-standing tradition of having its rabbinical students write Responsa. It started as early as 1698 when students were given a monthly question and expected to write and present a Responsum. As of 1729 these Responsa were printed monthly, and later bound in the form of thirteen Pri Ets Haim (PEH) volumes. This practice stopped in 1808, but was reborn in 1843, as a requirement for completing the highest rabbinical degree of Moré, which continues to this day. This second collection has been named the Pri Es Haim H'Hadash (PEHH). Until now these responsa are scattered among many different institutions, some easily accessible online, some less so, and some not at all. This Amsterdam Responsa Project website is to make all of these responsa accessible in a single site, along with additional biographical information about its authors.
