A purchased a house from B. During the contract negotiation, it became clear that A made the purchase only to later buy another house from a different owner. A made a small down payment. Unfortunately, the other house burned down. A wanted to cancel the purchase. Samuel ben Salomo a Catan ruled that if A brings witnesses or swears that his conditions formally corresponded to the requirements of the Torah [Book of Numbers, Chapter 32], the purchase could be annulled.
