Hirsch Summary
A woman, whose levirate marriage status was uncertain (whether her brother-in-law would marry her or perform Halitzah), still made various gifts to needy relatives. After her sudden death, her brother-in-law contested the legitimacy of these gifts. Moses Alvares ruled that the gifts were valid if they did not exceed half of what the deceased woman had brought into the marriage as 'goods of an iron animal' (a metaphor for valuable possessions).
