Hirsch Summary
Jacob b. Moses de Gavez describes an apple tree onto which lettuce was grafted into the fruits still hanging on the tree and asks whether he may do the same. Moses ben Samuel Israel denies it. [Immanuel Löw, Chief Rabbi of Szeged, to whom I presented the case, considers De Gavez's observation to be mistaken. He is of the opinion that it was not lettuce but rather a deformity of the apple's sepals. He refers to Prof. Dr. Györffy, Botanist at the University of Szeged, and the book by O. Penzig, Plant Teratology I (1921) p. 334.]
