Moses Ledesma presents the following inquiry from Jacob ben Abraham Teixeira de Mattos: Can Jews purchase a usable Torah scroll at an auction on the Sabbath through a non-Jewish broker? What if it is uncertain whether the scroll was written by a Jew or a non-Jew? Samuel ben Samuel a Catan permits the purchase of the Torah scroll; ideally, the broker should not disclose the name of the Jewish buyer.
