Hirsch Summary
A merchant A in Amsterdam married off his sister to B, who lived in London, and gave her 5500 in cash and jewelry worth 500 ducats, while B added another 3000 ducats to her ketubah. When B died childless after two years, the brother brought his sister back from London to Amsterdam. He settled with B's heirs, who paid him 9000 ducats and allowed the widow to keep the jewelry. Later, they demanded 500 ducats back. A refused, arguing that they had waived their claim; however, if their demand were to be acknowledged, the amount, according to the present value of the jewels, would be lower. Meir ben Abraham Hacohen Alfasi ordered the widow to pay the current value.
