Hirsch Summary
Regarding cooked chickens at a Purim feast: Many people sent cooked chickens in broth for a communal meal. The chickens were placed in a large dish to be shared. During the meal, a broken bone was found in one of the drumsticks, with the fracture visible. Samuel b. Salomo a'Cathan ruled, citing the book 'Beer Esek' by Sabbatai Beer Fonte (Resp. 8), that the break constituted an absolute Trefah (forbidden due to injury). Therefore, unless there were 60 chickens, all the chickens were prohibited for consumption. The cooking pots in which the chickens were prepared in individual households were also considered Trefah. These pots were forbidden for further use because the inquiry was made simultaneously for all the chickens. .
