Hirsch Summary
A had lost a promissory note to a non-Jew, which was found by another non-Jew. The second non-Jew, through the mediation of two Jews (one of whom was a friend of A), approached A and demanded 30 florins for its return. A did not want to pay so much and pointed out that according to Jewish law, the friend was obligated to help him regain his property. However, the friend had sworn to the non-Jew not to reveal his name and did not want to break his oath. Abraham ben Jacob de Sade Meza characterizes the actions of the two Jews as bordering on theft; he considers the oath not binding since it pertained to the annulment of a Torah commandment.
