Hirsch Summary
In another case, B sent a promissory note to A for collection from a non-Jew. When A received it, he heard unfavorable information about the non-Jew's financial situation. Consequently, A accepted premios dacsiones (likely stocks) from the non-Jew as payment and simultaneously wrote to B that he would take them at the market price, as B was not interested in stocks. Later, when the stocks unexpectedly quadrupled in value, B, who had not responded to A's letter, wanted to claim the stocks or their increased value for himself. Samuel b. Salomo a Catan ruled in favor of A, provided there was no established custom to the contrary in the trading practice. .
