Hirsch Summary
A son refused to accept his heavily indebted father's inheritance because he realized that even if he collected all the father's debts owed by non-Jews, nothing would remain for him. Moses Alvares was uncertain whether the son could be compelled (according to Rabbi Joseph Ibn Migas) or whether it was merely his moral duty (according to Rabbi Solomon b. Adereth and Rabbi Jacob Baal Haturim) to accept the inheritance. However, Alvares emphasized that the son was definitely obligated to assist in debt collection.
