Inquiry from Aron Acohen d'Azevedo: If a Cohen enters the synagogue only when the congregation is reciting "Modim," may he still ascend the pulpit to recite the priestly blessing? David ben Abraham Franco Mendes denies this; he permits it only if the Cohen's house is so close to the synagogue that he could have heard the beginning of the service and left his house accordingly.
