Hirsch Summary
Dedication Sheet of Samuel b. David Chiskijahu Mendes de Sola. Inquiry from Moses Alvares: Two merchants, A and B, embarked on a sea voyage. Suddenly, a rumor spread that their ship had been captured by pirates. In response, C, a friend of both merchants, gathered money for their ransom and sent it to D for their release. Due to negligence, D's money was stolen at an inn. Later, it became evident from letters exchanged between A and B that they were still free at the time of D's departure but were subsequently taken captive. D sought to exploit this situation to avoid his obligation. Samuel b. David Chiskijahu Mendes de Sola ruled that D must repay the money. See reference 723.
