A approached B and requested a loan of 1,000 gulden. B claimed not to have cash and instead gave A precious stones. A sold these for 800 gulden. When the loan became due after a year, A wanted to repay only that amount to B, citing the prohibition against usury and exploitation. However, Moses Alvares does not accept this argument and rules that A is fully liable for the entire sum (1,000 gulden). See reference 893.
