Ruben dies and leaves a childless wife. A witness reports that Ruben has a brother who is no longer a Jew, and that Ruben told him he died. May the wife remarry?

Ruben from a far off land marries a local woman and dies without children. His wife wishes to remarry. A witness reports that he knows for sure that Ruben has a brother that converted from Judaism. Therefore Ruben told him sometime before the marriage that his brother had died. Do we now permit the woman to remarry?
