Hirsch Summary
Two brothers, A and B, jointly made an inheritance overseas. A traveled there with B's power of attorney and collected the inheritance. On the journey, he lost part of his travel money and his entire luggage due to a shipwreck. During the settlement, he wanted B to compensate him for his losses and travel expenses. In addition, he demanded compensation for his efforts. Samuel Mendez de Sola rejects A's claim for damages; the travel expenses are owed to him unconditionally. He can only obtain payment for his services by withholding funds from the inheritance. If he has already paid these, he cannot force B to pay. (See 945).
In the concluding words, which include the verse: 'Let them gather together against the righteous and condemn innocent blood!' (Psalm 94, verse 21), where the first word of this verse '?????' and '???', a goat as a sign of the month (Tebeth), and "?? ???", (numerical value ????? ???) are printed in bold, it seems to contain a political allusion. The meaning is not clear. Perhaps a great scholar was treated unjustly or even killed at that time.
