Hirsch Summary
Someone bequeathed a sum to' hekdesh' (a charitable or sacred fund) to ensure that the interest from it would support a poor, fatherless boy. The administrators made a public announcement inviting applications. A boy was selected by lottery and supported until he turned 15. Afterward, the fund was awarded again by lottery. Years later, a grandson of the benefactor came forward, raising doubts about whether he could receive support without participating in the lottery and whether support could be extended to him beyond the age of 15. Jacob ben Eliezer Ferrares ruled that the grandson had no special privilege, neither in the lottery nor otherwise..
