A widow who had become the levirate wife of a minor brother-in-law died without the brother-in-law having performed chalitza (the formal act to release her from the levirate marriage) or having married her. The question arises: who inherits her estate? Joseph ben Moses Alvares ruled that the brother-in-law inherits the ketubah (the marriage contract sum) while the father of the deceased inherits the rest of the estate.
