Hirsch Summary
Can a woman remarry upon receiving information from a Marrano that her husband is deceased? The peculiarity in this case lies in the following: The Marrano had emigrated from Spain but had not returned to Judaism, although he knew about his apostasy, and ten years had passed since his emigration. Joseph Piza does not delve into the historical development of the Marrano issue, as others have done in previous cases, but immediately decides that the Marrano should be treated as a fully renegade Jew ("meshumad").
