A Cohen wanted to seek his fortune in Curacao. However, so that his wife would be free in the event that something happened to him, he instructed a scribe to write her a divorce document after 3 years if he had not returned home by then. He asked his two friends to sign the divorce document as witnesses. Shortly after setting sail, the ship encountered distress and narrowly escaped sinking. The man returned home and only left again after four months. Does the old instruction still apply, and if so, from what point do the three years begin?
