Hirsch Summary
An inquiry was made regarding whether the revocation of a divorce letter by the person who issued it could be legally effective without witnesses or only with two witnesses. Moses Alvarez ruled that if the husband, before the wife received the divorce letter, communicated the revocation to the wife or the messenger, or sent a separate messenger, he would not need witnesses; otherwise, two witnesses would be necessary. [As this creates a state of uncertainty for the wife, during which she does not know if the divorce letter has been revoked, in today's proceedings before the Beth Din, the husband's declaration that he forever renounces the right to revoke is accepted.]
