A purchased almonds from B for delivery in 4 months at a rate of 10 gulden per hundredweight. When the delivery time arrived, the market price for almonds was 20 gulden. B sought to evade the delivery obligation, claiming that the contract violated the Torah prohibition on usury and was therefore invalid. Jacob ben Abraham Baffan ruled that the contract was legally valid.
