PEH200
Hirsch Summary
Someone vowed, while in distress, to give 1,000 gulden to the poor and an additional 50 gulden to a specific orphan girl in London. When he arrived in Amsterdam, he repeated his vow but did not mention that the orphan girl lived in London. Consequently, the synagogue officials in Amsterdam wanted to collect the 50 gulden for a local Amsterdam orphan girl. Chija Cohen de Lara ruled that the interpretation of a vow should be based on the donor's intent and perspective, so the orphan girl in London should receive the amount.
