Hirsch Summary
A, residing overseas, owned a valuable slave. Since he had to travel to Amsterdam, where slavery was prohibited, meaning the slave could have left him, he entrusted her to his friend B, who was to have her services in return for her freedom. When A returned after 2 years, the slave had borne a son. B refused to surrender the child for various reasons, including his claim that one of his slaves was the father. David ben Raphael Meldola ruled in favor of A for the child, not only based on religious law but also in accordance with the laws of the land.
