Title
PEH445
Hirsch Summary
An inquiry is made as to whether one can consume drinks and sweets adulterated with cochineal [insects]. Samuel ben Salomo a Catan prohibits this. In his response, he also deals with the question of whether one can deliberately mix forbidden and permitted items. [Ruyssen had already established in 1725, three years before our opinion, that cochineal is an animal.]
