Hirsch Summary
A mint owner had silver brought from a precious metal dealer. Upon arrival at the mint (casa de moneda), the silver was not re-weighed. During minting, a shortage was discovered, leading to a dispute between the workshop owner and the workers over who should bear the loss. Jacob b. Abraham Bassan decides that the workshop owner should bear the loss. However, the workers can be sworn under a ban (Cherem) that they did not embezzle any silver. See 557 (and 642).
