Hirsch Summary
A wealthy man had a wayward son. Consequently, the father legally disinherited him in front of two witnesses. The son went abroad. News arrived of his death, and the father thanked God for it, bequeathing his entire fortune to strangers. Five years after the father's death, the son returned and demanded his inheritance. Jacob ben Abraham Bassan ruled that the son was entitled to the inheritance. However, if he remained unworthy, the Beth Din should provide him with a monthly or weekly amount sufficient for basic needs. If he denied God or any of the fundamental principles (Ikarim) of the Torah, he would receive nothing. Bassan mentioned that he would have liked to discuss the case more thoroughly, but his eye ailment prevented him from doing so. This ailment also caused the delay in releasing the responses.
