Hirsch Summary
Someone came to the synagogue while the congregation was praying the Shemoneh Esreh. Assuming that it was the Mincha prayer, he joined the congregation's prayer. However, it was actually the Maariw (evening) prayer. Jonah ben Menasseh Abarbanel decided that his prayer would not count either for Mincha or for Maariw.
