Question Summary
A Jew makes a fire insurance claim for destroyed property on a Sabbath, sold to a non-Jew for Passover. May he withhold information about the sale.
Question Full
A story about a Jew who sold his Hamets to a non-Jew before Passover, and there was a fire in his neighbour's house on the first day of Passover, which fell on Shabbat . And in order to put out the fire and in order to save the Jew's property, whose Hametz is located there, from the fire, the firefighters ask him for the key to his property and he gives it to them. But their efforts were for naught for his neighbour's house and his property were destroyed by the fire. And during the Passover weekdays the Jew comes to the Rabbi and tells him: "Today or tomorrow I want to go to the fire insurance people and collect one third of the value of the lost goods because I need the money. And I do not wish to tell them that I sold them for Passover, for I fear they will not pay me for what I lost".
