Hirsch Summary
In a small Sephardic community, the custom was to declare only lung threads as kosher if they went from one lobe to the next or from the main part to the nearest lobe or remained on the same lobe or on the main part. All other threads, for example, those leading to a damaged part of the wall, to the ribs, and the pleura, were declared forbidden according to French custom. As this led to a noticeable shortage of usable meat, an inquiry is made whether one should follow the advice of a man from the Western countries (possibly Spain or Palestine) who said that they examine all lung threads there with lukewarm water. Solomon Jessurun decides that the custom should not be changed.
