Hirsch Summary
Dedication page of Solomon Jessurun. Inquiry from David Franco Mendes: A gold and silver smith suspected his servant of dishonesty. Consequently, he did not allow him, as usual, to carry the finished tools to the merchant and receive payment but asked the merchant to send his own messenger to receive them. Now, the finished items were so heavy that the goldsmith's servant helped in carrying them away. Both servants absconded with the items. Solomon Jessurun decides that the goldsmith must bear the loss alone. On a second theoretical question, Jessurun decides: If the merchant had given the goldsmith's servant the money without a receipt, then the merchant would bear the loss.
