Hirsch Summary
Inquiry from Joseph Mantel regarding some apparent contradictions in the Shulchan Aruch concerning an item with which one can honor guests. Samuel b. Solomon a Catan addresses the question by stating that Rabbi Joseph Karo, as well as Rabbi Solomon ben Aderet and Nachmanides, have decided that such an item should neither be too large nor too small. It may be raw and uncooked, but not entirely unprocessed, like a bird with feathers or a lamb with its fleece. The prohibition against enjoying it must be based on its own characteristics, rather than external factors, with the exception of the prohibition of "meat and milk."
