<text>A person acted as a guardian for the children of their friend. They had to pursue a disputed debt of 5,000 guilders recorded in the deceased friend's business books. The guardian was also the sole witness regarding the loan. Jacob ben Abraham Bassan distinguishes three types of guardians: Those who received 2% to 3% of the orphans' income. Those who received a specific amount designated in the will. Those who served without compensation. Bassan explains that the testimony of the guardian is valid unless they belong to the first group. In that case, they must explicitly waive their compensation for their testimony to be valid. If the debtor swears that they have already repaid the deceased, they are exempt from payment. See 894.</text>
