<text>A certain man had sworn to the Beth-Din (Jewish court) that his son, who led a dissolute life, would not enjoy his property during his lifetime or after his death. When the son learned of this, he went to the synagogue leader (Vorsteher des Hekdesch) and promised him the entire paternal inheritance without revealing his father's oath. After the son's death, the synagogue leader demanded the inheritance. Samuel ben Salomo a'Cathan ruled that due to the son's renunciation of enjoyment, he was not prohibited from transferring the inheritance to his sons, brothers, or the synagogue. In this case, he decided in accordance with Maimonides that the son was obligated to transfer his inheritance to the synagogue, and the father's oath did not prevent this. See reference 865.</text>
