She died without having sworn her ketubah (marriage contract). The heirs of the woman demanded payment of the ketubah from the heirs of the man. Although the ketubah document was no longer available, its amount was certain. The heirs refused to pay the ketubah and demanded the gifts made by the widow from the recipients. Joseph Piza decides: the heirs of the man are not obligated to pay the ketubah and even have a claim to the gifts made from it. However, the heirs of the woman have a claim to the dowry, as well as the recipients for the gifts made from the dowry.
