Three testimonies concerning his whereabouts were presented: 1.) A Jew in Akron heard that Joab was on a ship called "Ox," which encountered a storm and sank. Experts doubted that this ship could have withstood such a storm. A sailor also claimed to have seen a ship capsized at that time. 2.) Another Jew testified that he saw a document, composed and signed by the non-Jewish court, regarding the testimony of a non-Jew. According to this testimony, recounted in Madmana, another non-Jew claimed that a ship, armed with 22 cannons, sailed out from Akron simultaneously with another ship. This ship boarded the other one at night, massacring all passengers and crew, except the captain, whom they spared before setting the ship on fire and letting it drift. The witness did not know the names of the ships or the pirate ship. 3.) A Jew stated that he saw a letter from a merchant in Akron to a merchant in Jarmuth, possibly Yarmouth, stating that the ship "Ox," according to a sailor in Madmana, was boarded by a ship armed with 22 cannons, with which it sailed from Akron. All aboard, including a Jew named Joab from Ziklag, were murdered, except the captain, whom they left on the burning ship.
