<text>A man who was on his deathbed gave his wife a divorce document so that she would not fall to his brother-in-law. Following the instructions of the scholar who oversaw the divorce, she sewed the divorce document into her cloak (Saraball). However, shortly thereafter, while crossing a river in a boat, she fell with her clothes into the water. When she separated the divorce document from the Saraball two days after her husband's death, it was almost completely erased. The scholar to whom she reported this said that it didn't matter because the divorce document was initially in order. Furthermore, her brother-in-law was of ill repute, and it was assumed he would certainly refuse the Chaliza (levirate marriage). Therefore, the woman remarried four months later. Another scholar who heard about this suggested that she needed the Chaliza; now she had to leave her current husband. Salomo Jessurun decides that the divorce is legally valid, thus also the new marriage.</text>
