From the first and third wives, he had sons, while the second wife was childless. The second wife upon her husband's death, claims that she was left a ketubah and promissory notes, and that these documents must be among his papers, but since they were not in her hands the woman was unable to prove that she still had claims to them. The sons refused to acknowledge the existence of the documents and are unwilling to pay. Jacob ben David Fidanque assessed the widow's legal position as unfavorable. However, he ruled that the orphans should be sworn under a ban to ensure they did not conceal anything that might support the widow's claims.
