As her dowry had been worth 8000 guilders, but now there were only goods worth 6000 guilders, she wanted the remaining goods and 2000 guilders in cash. She had lost her ketubah document but proved the value of her dowry through foreign witnesses and, through the testimony of her adult daughter, that she had not waived anything. The local rabbinical court wanted to give her only half of the remaining goods and 1000 guilders immediately, with the rest to be deposited until the second daughter reached adulthood. The widow now wanted at least the entire remaining dowry and 1000 guilders immediately. David ben Raphael Meldola confirms the judgment of the rabbinical court but says that they should have given the widow the entire 4000 guilders in goods, leaving only 2000 guilders in goods and 2000 guilders in cash to be invested profitably.
