While the son-in-law was away, the father-in-law accepted this purchase offer with a symbolic gesture (mantelgriff), where a garment is touched to confirm, in the presence of two witnesses. The son-in-law was notified of this acceptance by a messenger. However, the father-in-law died before the messenger returned. The heirs of the father-in-law contested the purchase agreement, arguing that the delayed return of the messenger did not fully meet the formality. Moses ben Samuel Izrael rules in favor of the heirs.</text>
