He had done the same on the day in question and handed the chest over to B's wife in the evening. She later claimed that she had told A she had no time to take over the chest. The broker denied this. Meir ben Abraham Hacohen Alfassi imposed an oath on B that he had handed over the precious stones to B's wife. If he took the oath, especially as a court-sworn broker in Amsterdam, he would not be required to compensate.
