The butcher meticulously inspected the knife between the slaughter of individual pieces, except for the last 3 pieces of small poultry. Upon later inspection, the butcher found a defect in the knife and informed the client that these three small poultry pieces were forbidden for consumption. In the excitement of preparing for the feast, the incident was forgotten. Only after the large meal (a grand fricassée) was ready, did people remember the occurrence. Moses Alvares permits the dish if the three pieces constitute less than one-sixtieth of the entire meal, even though it is a dish suitable for entertaining guests.
